Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — On Friday around 9 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a burglary in the 400 block of E. Adams Street, a location that was damaged by fire in June. A man and woman were seen on camera trying to enter a building. A white U-Haul truck was spotted nearby, but its involvement at the time was unclear.
Two nights later, officers returned to the same location for another report of the same suspects. The suspects were not found, but a white U-Haul was seen near Sixth and Ash Streets. A man and woman on bicycles, matching the suspects from the video, were found near the truck.
Nathaniel N. Barnes, 45, and Joyce L. Rushing, 47, both of Springfield, were arrested for burglary and taken to the Sangamon County Jail. On Tuesday, they were charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
