Springfield, ILĀ  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Students at Lanphier High School returned to their normal school day Thursday afternoon after a hard lockdown was lifted. The lockdown occurred after a teacher pressed a rapid response button on their Centegix badge multiple times in response to two lunchroom altercations involving several students.

District 186 issued a statement on social media saying security and teachers responded to de-escalate the incidents, but the hard lockdown was triggered by the badge button. The lockdown was quickly cleared, according to the district. Springfield Police responded and deemed it safe within minutes. No knives and no injuries due to a weapon were reported.

The district’s statement also indicated a fire truck and ambulance had also responded to the school for a student’s medical emergency, unrelated to the lunchroom fights.
