Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – As the city’s removal of homeless people’s belongings last week all but foretold, angry citizens packed the city council chambers Tuesday. One takeaway: the voters of Springfield elected a pack of liars and racists to run the city.

Bookending the 5 1/2-hour meeting: a presentation outlining services and defending the city’s actions at North Fifth Street and North Grand Avenue; and a lengthy public comment period in which some citizens said they had video evidence to prove the city is lying about what happened, even destroying one homeless man’s attempt to start a business.

“What you guys were told (earlier in the evening by Springfield homeless outreach officer Mike) Newman wasn’t true,” said Tabitha Grigg. “There are terrible people who did one terrible thing, made one bad choice, and because of that, this council – specifically (Mayor Misty Buscher) – have chosen to vilify those of us who are speaking for the unhoused and say that we are making social media conspiracies when we have video evidence of bulldozers.”

The homeless situation was not on Tuesday’s agenda.
