Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 20-year-old Springfield man was arrested Wednesday after reportedly waiving a gun around in the 300 block of S. Glenwood Ave. and running from police. Around 3 p.m., officers say they found LeMarcus Yates concealing a large object in his clothing and then attempting to hide behind a vehicle. Yates attempted to run away, tossing the firearm as he fled, according to SPD. Officers collected the firearm and apprehended him.
Yates was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a burglary case at the time of the arrest. He was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and the warrant. He is in custody at the Sangamon County Jail.
