Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Massey Commision has sent letters to the Illinois State Police, Department of Justice and the Illinois Attorney General’s office requesting a full review of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office. Formed in the wake of the shooting of Sonya Massey in her home by a Sangamon County deputy in July, the commission was created by the county with the goal of addressing systemic racism and community mistrust of law enforcement.

The commission’s Economic Disparities and Service Accessibility Workgroup meeting is Monday at 6 p.m. at Resource One, 133 S. 4th Street, Suite 306 in Springfield. This is the first of the commission’s workgroup meetings.
