Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 27-year-old Springfield man is in the Sangamon County Jail facing armed robbery, vehicular hijacking and weapons charges. Springfield police responded to a report of a man being robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle, cell phone and wallet early Tuesday morning on North Seventh Street.

Police located the victim’s vehicle in traffic and attempted a stop. SPD reports the suspect fled but then crashed the vehicle on North Grand Avenue. He then tried to run away after the crash, but he was apprehended by officers.

27-year-old Daiquaon Johnson of Springfield was arrested and has been formally charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, armed habitual criminal and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
