Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The City of Springfield is thanking the security team at the Lincoln Library and the Springfield Police Department for their prompt response to an incident Friday.

The situation began when an individual attempted to start a physical altercation inside the library at 326 S. 7th St. Library staff stepped in, but the individual reportedly became combative. Two library security guards followed established procedures detaining the person until Springfield police officers arrived and took over, according to a news release from the City of Springfield.

Mayor Misty Buscher commended the team for their actions. “We are incredibly proud of the quick thinking and composure demonstrated by our library security staff and law enforcement officers,” Buscher said. “Their actions ensured the safety of everyone present and underscored their dedication to keeping our public spaces secure.”
