Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Springfield Fire Department’s building boom is over.

After opening stations at Rickard Road and at Spaulding Orchard Road, city leaders cut the ribbon Thursday morning at the newest station at Eleventh and Ash Streets. The new Fire Station 6 replaces the one at Ninth and Ash.

Chief Ed Canny (pictured, second from left) said “This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and resources to enhance our firefighters’ ability to respond efficiently and effectively to emergencies.”

Canny added the station includes a community room and a police substation.

An open house is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
