Sixty years after the March on Washington, one of Illinois’ Black leaders is not pleased with the state of race relations today.

“I believe that under the Trump administration, we have gone back in America in terms of race relations,” said Teresa Haley, Illinois president of the NAACP. “I believe that racism still exists in America and has always existed, but I think certain people – white privilege – have been given an opportunity under his leadership to say what they want, to do what they want.”

Haley is not old enough to remember the March on Washington, but she did lead two busloads of Illinoisans to Washington for the fiftieth anniversary of the March. WTAX News interviewed Haley Monday, the sixtieth anniversary of the march.
