One man has been arrested and two more are wanted in connection with break-ins and theft of scrap metal. In July, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department began investigating multiple reports of theft from the state fairgrounds including the former Illinois Department of Corrections building (now referred to as Building 29).

Atwood is currently out on bond on the burglary case.  At the time of the burglary, he was out on bond and pending trial for a June 2023 case of Manufacture/Delivery of Methamphetamine. Atwood has prior arrests for narcotics, burglary, and larceny.

McCormick was also out on bond and pending trial for a May 2023 case of Possession of Methamphetamine. McCormick’s bond is set at $50,000, and he has prior arrests for robbery, burglary, forgery, assault, larceny, narcotics, and criminal damage to property.
