Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) –  It seems logical that the Harlem Globetrotters would have started in Harlem, but the dynamic hoopsters actually got their start in Illinois. Abe Saperstein, a Jewish immigrant from Chicago’s South Side, was the mastermind behind the growth of the Globetrotters.

Authors Mark and Matthew Jacob will discuss their book, “Globetrotter: How Abe Saperstein Shook Up the World of Sports,” on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The discussion will be held in the Union Theater. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the program starts at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free, but advance registration is required. Mark and Matthew will sign copies of their book after the program. You can also purchase the book in advance and have it signed.

The Globetrotters are scheduled to play the following night at the BOS Center.
