The Springfield Mile returns to the Illinois State Fair Grandstand Saturday and Sunday in what is billed as The World’s Fastest Mile.
Around 60 racers will compete in two classes, singles and twins, for prize money.
Organizer Nicole Mees says about 5000 fans are expected to attend.
Grand Marshall, Angela Savage, is representing her dad, famous Indy driver, Swede Savage, who was tragically the last person killed at the Indy 500 in 1973.
Racer Shayna Texter-Bauman is the only female racer competing and she’s enjoyed a lot of success on the track.
Another racer to keep an eye on is Jared Mees, racing for Indian, who went into the races leading the Grand National pack by a slim one point. His 6-year-old daughter, Hayden, will sing the National Anthem.
