Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Macy’s at White Oaks Mall is closing as part of the Macy’s new strategy. The White Oaks Mall location is one of 66 stores slated to close under the plan. It is the only Illinois store on the latest closure list.
The company announced the plan Thursday and said the move is designed to help the company achieve “sustainable, profitable sales growth.” The strategy includes closing approximately 150 underperforming stores over the next three years.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc.
