Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 55-year-old is dead after being found alone and unresponsive in his Sangamon County Jail cell Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon reports correctional staff began CPR and used an AED.
Although he was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, he did not survive. He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
In an official media release, Allmon noted preliminary autopsy results did not show any evidence of injury or trauma, and findings suggest the man died of natural causes. However, toxicology studies are pending.
The man’s identity is being withheld at this time, pending notification of next of kin. The case remains under investigation.
