(WAND) — As the deadline for a possible government shutdown approaches the states senior Senator warns programs across the nation and here in Illinois will be impacted.
Senator Dick Durbin, (D-Illinois), says the shutdown will jeopardize programs such as public health, food safety, education, law enforcement and housing. He also says a shutdown will stop the training of badly needed air traffic controllers. While current air traffic controllers will have to continue working without a paycheck.
The federal Special Supplement Nutrition Program for Women, Children and Infants will see 170,000 individuals lose those benefits in Illinois during a shutdown.
