The Union Theatre at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum was filled Wednesday night as Illinois’ First Lady MK Pritzker talked about redecorating the Governor’s Mansion and her new book “A House That Made History”. Pritzker credited some former first ladies including Shirley Stratton and Diana Rauner for their efforts in saving and restoring the mansion through the years.
Pritzker worked with world-renowned designer Michael S. Smith, who is well known for his work decorating the White House for the Obamas. Smith, according to Pritzker, donated his services. Proceeds from book sales will go to the mansion’s future upkeep.
Of all the newly finished rooms, Pritzker says there’s one that is definitely her favorite…The Lincoln Parlor. She jokes that she thinks she may have a crush on Abraham Lincoln because his picture is everywhere. The color of the parlor and the beautiful light are two reasons why she loves the room.
