Springfield, ILĀ (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Police responded to a possible domestic violence incident around noon Monday in the 4000 block of Sand Hill Road. At the scene, officers found a woman with a serious head wound. She was transported to a local hospital, and her condition is unknown at this time.
Less than 10 minutes later, dispatch received reports of a man jumping off the Peoria Road/Sherman Boulevard bridge into the Sangamon River. Officers located the man and attempted CPR, but he did not survive.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled. The man’s identity is being held at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing.
