Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The practice of putting trans kids in the girls’ locker room is unacceptable to members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus.
Caucus vice chair State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (pictured, left) (R-Beecher City) said middle school girls in Deerfield were forced to change clothes in front of a boy who is transitioning to female.
“What happened to these girls in Deerfield is not okay. It’s sick,” said Wilhour. “Students deserve an education that’s free from social experimentation, and we are committed to ensure there is a rigorous independent investigation of what’s gone on in Deerfield and in other places.”
A Capitol news conference – staged just outside the governor’s office – also included one of the girls from the locker room as well as Shannon Adcock of Awake Illinois.
“We need all hands on deck,” said Adcock. “This is really a rally call to say we are on the right side of literally every issue we have been tackling over these last five years, so take comfort in that, and please make courage a habit, because Illinois needs you. And if you need to know what it looks like to be courageous and to be a role model for your family and for the state, look no further than the people standing here today.”
The lawmakers and the parents involved say the local lawmaker there, State Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield), is not taking the concern seriously.
