Springfield, ILĀ  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Illinois’ public school libraries are getting an infusion of funding to provide more materials for K-12 students. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced the $1.3 million in grants to 2,484 libraries on Monday.

The funding will be used for library books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, technology and programs. According to Giannoulias’ office, districts receive about 89 cents per student.

Local school districts will receive the following:

Springfield District 186 – $5,155

Ball-Chatham CUSD 5 – $3,892

Rochester CUSD 3 – $1,679

Williamsville CUSD 15 – $1,200

Pleasant Plains CUSD 8 – $1,082

Riverton CUSD 14 – $952

Buffalo Tri-City CUSD 1 – $850

New Berlin CUSD 16 – $850

PORTA CUSD 202 – $850

Funding comes from Illinois’ General Revenue Fund.
