Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Members of the Illinois House and Senate squared off on the softball diamond at Lincoln Park on Tuesday evening for their annual match-up.

It was the 7th time the two chambers met on the field of play with the House holding a decisive command over their demographically older counterparts with 5 victories in all.

Several hundred legislators, lobbyists and softball enthusiast turned out for the game.

House Speaker, Chris Welch, a former college athlete for Northwestern, displayed his usual aplomb when talked about the importance of the House team defending its title from last year.

He said it was all in the spirit of camaraderie, but his team intended to win.

State Representative, 74-year-old Wayne Rosenthal, himself something of a ringer, plays softball with a traveling senior league. He says his regular job running a large farming operation keeps him fit.

State Senator, Steve McClure, said honor was on the line this year as, according to him, the officiating last year was questionable, so he was hoping for a fair shot this year.

Unfortunately, his Field of Dreams was not to be. Final in the game – House 9, Senate NOTHING.
