Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A new exhibit about to debut at Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln will be a benefit to everyone, according to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, especially those who may have vision impairments.

The museum announced Wednesday that “Lincoln: Sight, Sound & Touch” will open to the public Friday, May 23, and continue through Sunday, August 24.

“We firmly believe in the idea of ‘Abe for all’ – that everyone should have a chance to learn about Lincoln’s achievements and how they affect America today,” said Christina Shutt, executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, in a news release. “This exhibit delivers on that by offering a fun, informative experience that everyone can enjoy, even if they cannot see it. We’re especially happy that part of it will remain at the ALPLM for years to come.”

The exhibit, the museum said, focuses in part on how Lincoln’s image has been used to sell items ranging from cars to cigarettes and war bonds. Posters turned into three-dimensional objects will be part of the display.

But, touchable models of a sculpture from the Lincoln Memorial, and Lincoln’s face and hands, will have sensors on them that will turn on audio descriptions of the objects, explaining the significance of each item. In addition, a piece on the Gettysburg Address will remain in the museum after the exhibit is over.

The museum says the exhibit will be part of regular museum admission.
