Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Who knows whether Washington was paying attention Thursday afternoon, but Illinois House Democrats are unhappy with the Trump administration’s plan to slash Medicaid.
“Medicaid is the biggest funder of behavioral health cafe in the state of Illinois. That is mental health, addiction, and recovery,” said State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe (D-Chicago). “Medicaid is the biggest funder of longterm care in the state of Illinois.”
Republicans saw irony in the resolution.
“‘President Donald Trump brazenly lied to the American people, stating he would not cut Medicaid while actually lobbying behind closed doors to pass the bill,'” said State Rep Patrick Windhorst (D-Metropolis), reading from the resolution. “Behind closed doors? Where’s this budget being negotiated right now? Behind closed doors!”
Windhorst also questioned why Democrats are concerned about Republicans pushing legislation through in the middle of the night, since last year’s budget vote came at 4:30 a.m.
HR 391 has passed the House, 76-33.
