Champaign, IL (Chambana Today) – A shooting early Sunday morning has left one Champaign teenager dead and another in critical condition, prompting a community-wide call for information as police continue their investigation.
At approximately 12:01 a.m. on June 29, 2025, officers with the Champaign Police Department responded to a report of gunfire on Holly Hill Drive. Upon arrival in the 1500 block, officers discovered two 16-year-old boys lying unresponsive in a front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities say both teens were residents of Champaign.
Police and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department administered life-saving aid before transporting the victims to a local hospital. One of the teens died from his injuries shortly after arrival. The second remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. Investigators say little information is currently available, and no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone who saw or heard anything, or who may have relevant surveillance footage, to come forward.
