Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Police officials say a recent operation could be considered a success.
Police, according to a news release, say they partnered with the TJX corporation in order to garget recent retail thefts in the city. TJX owns stores like Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Sierra, and Marshall’s.
The department says both police and security officers, both in uniform and in plain clothes, were used. They say seven people were arrested, and one illegal gun was recovered.
Charges against the arrested included:
- 5 felony Retail Theft counts
- 3 misdemeanor Retail Theft counts
- 1 felony warrant arrest
- 1 felony count for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Defacing Identification Marks of a Firearm, and no FOID card
“The assigned officers and security personnel were able to prevent substantial monetary loss at several local retail establishments,” said Commander Jaron Maddox, Springfield Police, in a news release. “The Springfield Police Department takes thefts at retail establishments seriously and will continue to conduct these types operations in the future to identify and arrest those responsible.”
The special detail took place July 24 and 25.
