Moline, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A native of the Quad Cities, Scott McFarland spent a long time advocating for education, and volunteerism.
McFarland, formerly of Springfield, died Saturday, according to an obituary from the Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory in Moline. He was 41.
McFarland spent a number of years on the Springfield Public Schools Dist. 186 Board of Education, serving most recently as its president. He was also in charge for more than a decade of “Serve Illinois” — a state-funded volunteerism and grant funding arm.
McFarland’s obituary also describes him as “fiercely political;” and while he enjoyed a good debate, he started the mutual aid Facebook group called “Springfield Families Helping Families.”
The obituary says a Celebration of Life for McFarland will be held at a later date. In the meantime, it says, “To celebrate Scott, open up any music app that you have and search “Less Than Jake”, then just hit play.”
Scott McFarland is survived by his wife Amber, three children, two brothers, a nephew, and a cousin.
Memorials can be made to McFarland’s family.
