(WAND) – A proposal that would have restructured the current conference format for football has failed to pass.
The Illinois High School Association voted on the proposal. Under the proposal each class would have had eight districts. Each district would have been made up of eight teams. The top four teams from each district would make the playoffs.
If Proposal 18 had been approved, it would have changed laws concerning football scheduling, implement football districts, and granted IHSA full control of scheduling for all football teams.
The Rochester Community Unit School District 3A earlier spoke out against the proposal saying, “While we acknowledge IHSA’s commitment to inclusivity, we feel compelled to express our reservations regarding the potential ramifications of this decision on districts with active football programs.”
“We call on the IHSA to reconsider its proposal,” they said. “We call for more transparency from the IHSA and urge them to recognize the invaluable contributions that superintendents and school boards can bring to the table in discussions of this magnitude.”
