CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Il. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — A Champaign-Urbana program is holding an annual event to raise money to provide free books to Illinois prisoners.
The Urbana Champaign Books to Prisoners program of the Independent Media Center will sell gently used books for low prices to raise funds for their mission of providing free books by request to prisoners in Illinois.
According to our news partners at WAND TV, there will be a collection of 7,500-8,000 books — surplus from donations the organization cannot use or that prisons will not accept — mostly priced at $1 or $2.
The fundraiser will also feature some new elements this year, including a local string trio and “novel jewelry.”
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 1 at the Urbana Champaign Independent Media Center.
