Rochester, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After voters in Sangamon County passed a 1% sales tax for local schools back in 2019, Rochester High School took to a construction of a new wing.

A ribbon-cutting on the addition was held Wednesday.  The building includes new science rooms and a brand-new student services suite.

Jon Hansen, Director of Communications for Rochester Schools, described the new suite being “like a doctor’s office.” Not only does the building have these new rooms, it now also has a new secure entrance.

“This is the first time this building has a secure entrance,” said Hansen.  “Two step readers have been implemented; they have to come to this entrance. Any visitors or students have to be buzzed in by our administration office. This is a safer entrance; we know who’s coming in and coming out of our building.”

Hansen says Rochester schools are excited to have all students experience the new additions.
