Jacksonville, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Police in Jacksonville say a man was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being shot Saturday evening.

According to a news release from Jacksonville Police, a call of shots fired came in to them around 5:45 p.m. in the 800 block of West Chambers Street.

A man was found there having been shot, and was transported to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The man was later pronounced dead there.

The man’s name is not being released until after a coroner can notify next of kin.  An autopsy is likely.

The police news release says their investigation is continuing, and they believe the shooting was isolated.
