Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A teenager is dead after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car Monday evening.
According to a news release, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon says the 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the hospital around 6:45 p.m.
Allmon says the car allegedly struck the bike near Cook Street and Eastdale Avenue on the city’s east side, not long before the boy was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be held later Tuesday, and an investigation continues by the Coroner’s office and Springfield Police.
The name of the victim is not expected to be released until after the autopsy.
