The Springfield Fire Department is making a new program available to Springfield residents. The Knox HomeBox Loaner Program can reduce response time and property damage during an emergency.

The Knox HomeBox™ is a secure key box for residences that can only be opened with special Fire Department keys secured in mounted boxes on fire engines. Accessing the mounted boxes requires an individual code, and they record the date, time, and user who accessed the Knox Box key. Once accessed, the Fire Department key can be used to open the Knox HomeBox containing the house key.

The Springfield Fire Department was awarded a FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety grant that funded the purchase of 100 Knox HomeBoxes to begin the program.
