Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A $1 million grant will mean a new day for Springfield’s public library.

“We are so excited about this youth services grant,” Lincoln Library director Gwen Harrison told aldermen this week. “It’s going to give us the opportunity to totally renovate our youth services department, and it includes great changes for our teen population. They are going to get a lot of good spaces to be teenagers.

“There’s going to be programming space, dedicated programming space, for our young people,” Harrison continued. “There’s going to be reading nooks. I’m really, really excited about that. Places set aside where the kids can get comfortable with their parents or by themselves or with a little fuzzy animal and have reading time by themselves.”

Harrison said the renovations will include space for security and office space for youth service staff
