The City of Springfield Department of Public Works has a full month in April, Earth Month. Every Saturday in April there will be opportunities for new experiences! The City of Springfield has partnered with various groups for fun and educational experiences for everyone:

Saturday, April 6th

Stop by the Winter Famers Market at Union Square Park from 8 am to 12 pm. There, you will be able to talk to the Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council and learn more about bicycle routes in Springfield, as well as get a preview of events for Earth Awareness Month!

Historical Trees of Illinois at Cotton Hill Park West. Learn about the National Champion Dream Oak as well as mulching. The event is from 10 am to 12 pm.

Saturday, April 13th

The City of Springfield, in partnership with the University of Illinois Springfield, is hosting the inaugural UIS Nature Scavenger Hunt a fun activity for the whole family! This event kicks off from the UIS Colonnade at 12 pm and goes until 2 pm.

Saturday, April 20th

The City of Springfield, in partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library (ALPLM) presents the 32nd Annual Earth Awareness Fair at Union Square Park. This is the longest-running Earth Fair in Illinois! As a reminder, the run time is 11 am to 3 pm. Come early and take advantage of the last Winter’s Famers market before the regular market begins in May.

Friday, April 26th

Today is Arbor Day! Please join us at the Downtown YMCA at 601 N. 4th Street for the Official Arbor Day Celebration with a Tree Planting event at 4 pm.

Saturday, April 27th

Part of keeping Springfield environmentally friendly means more trees. Stop by Lincoln Park, 1601 N. 5th Street, at 10 am for a FREE TREE! The event is from 10 am to 12 pm or until supplies last.
