Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Other than Darren Bailey and Don Tracy, can you name any of the Republicans running statewide this year? The new chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, Bob Grogan (pictured), knows there is room for improvement in name recognition.

“We just have to keep working that ground game,” said Grogan. “We are going to get outspent. That has been one of our flaws over time; we were just always looking for that next billionaire, and we need to get back to those basics. You need to have enough money, not more money. Our folks are out there every day of the week, meeting actual voters, and not just carpet bombing the airwaves, and I think that starts to lose its allure after a while”

Grogan, who spoke to Capitol City Now during a recent Springfield stop, has been state party chair for three months.

For the record, the Republican candidates are Tracy for U.S. senator, Bailey for governor, Aaron Del Mar for lieutenant governor, Bob Fioretti for attorney general, Diane Harris for secretary of state, Bryan Drew for comptroller, and Max Solomon for treasurer.
