Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The members of Matchbox Twenty are unlikely to forget their visit to the Illinois State Fair.
During Sunday’s Grandstand concert, frontman Rob Thomas swung a microphone stand around and accidentally hit bandmate Paul Doucette in the head. The incident smashed Doucette’s earpiece, with pieces of it going farther into his ear. Tweezers took care of that problem.
“Every night, I’m over here, and I’m throwing this G– d— thing around,” Thomas told the audience immediately after it happened. “Oh, it went, and it nailed him. Yeah, I nailed him hard. He’s my best friend in the world, and I think I almost killed him, and I feel really bad about this.”
On social media video shot on the band’s bus, Doucette said, “Rob took me the f— out swinging that f—in’ mic stand during the show, and I have bits of my (earpiece), which he f—in’ smashed in my ear, which are now in my ear,” as two members of the band’s entourage went to work with tweezers. After the ear was finally clear, Doucette exclaimed, “F—in’ Rob!”
Don’t expect similar shenanigans from Ziggy Marley, Ella Langley, or the Chicks when they take the Grandstand stage the remaining nights of the fair.
