Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man is going to federal prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to having a stolen gun.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Kevin Gladney, 33, was sentenced Tuesday to 70 months in prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  He was indicted by a federal grand jury in July, 2023, and arrested in Texas in July, 2024.

Prosecutors say Gladney had a stolen .45 caliber semi-automatic weapon in his possession back in February of 2022, but tried to throw it from car, before the car crashed.  The gun, authorities say, had a number of modifications made to it.

Gladney was arrested in Texas more than a year later.  He could have faced 15 years in prison.  When he is released, Gladney must spend three years on supervised release.
