Chatham, IL (WAND) – The Ball-Chatham School District addressed two safety incidents at a pair of its schools earlier this week.

According to a letter sent by Ball-Chatham CUSD5 Superintendent Becca Lamon, a Glenwood Intermediate School student brought a fake gun onto a district school bus.

Lamon said a student reported it, and the school immediately went into a “soft lockdown.”

Then, a Glenwood High School student reported another student making a social media threat about potential gun violence.

Glenwood staff immediately called Chatham police. Lamon stated that the student who made the threat wasn’t on school property at the time.

She added that both incidents were handled immediately.

BCSD emphasized that anything that creates fear or jeopardizes the safety of students and staff “will not be tolerated.”

“We are grateful to the students who spoke up today. Their willingness to report concerns allowed our staff and law enforcement partners to respond quickly. Please encourage your student(s) to do the same. Reporting a concern is never something to delay or assume someone else will handle,” Lamon said in the letter.
