SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man has pleaded guilty to his role in a shooting death that occurred in April, 2025.

According to Sangamon County Court records and a statement from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department, Justin L. Pickrell, 24, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a single count of First Degree Murder.  Two other murder counts, two counts of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and a count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm were dismissed.

Pickrell, according to authorities, shot and killed Camren White, 19, Taylorville, April 7, 2025, in the 800 block of West Lenox.  Pickrell was arrested by U.S. Marshals after a car crash near Seventh and South Grand about a week later.

According to court records, a sentencing hearing will be held November 6 at 1:30 p.m.  A judge has ordered Pickrell to remain jailed.
