(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Gov. JB Pritzker continues to express his concerns about the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI).

Pritzker was a guest on the ABC News program “This Week” Sunday, and told anchor Jonathan Karl after recent news of  some potential hacks and other problems with AI systems, things are going too quickly.

“We’re talking about recursive AI that is the biggest concern,” said Pritzker (D-IL).   “That is that AI that essentially learns from itself and doesn’t need human beings anymore. And I think that’s what we all need to be concerned with. And frankly, in Illinois, we kind of anticipated something like this, and we passed the most stringent security measure around AI that any state has had.”

Pritzker says Republicans are going about AI wrong.

“They are okay with just letting it, you know, run rampant and let the leaders of it self-govern and self-regulate. And I think that’s a mistake,” said Pritzker.

Pritzker’s name continues to be mentioned as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, though he’s said he’s focused on winning another term as Governor.  Pritzker told Karl he’s concerned about the outcome of the midterms.

“Republicans know that they can’t win on the merits of their unpopular policies, so they’re working to rig the 2026 election,” said Pritzker, who spent time in Texas recently campaigning with Democrats there.

“Texas Democrats know what I know, which is we’re not going to win every battle. But when we stand against tyranny together, we inspire others to join the fight,” said Pritzker.
