SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – District 186 superintendent Terrance Jordan says the district could have done a better job addressing the hot weather during a football game Sept. 12.

Board member Sarah Blissett said the weather was too much for some. “I know that that ambulance was on the field two different times, and that game did not stop. At all.” The superintendent said, “There are some things we could have done better. We’ve acknowledged those, and we’ve talked to all the families. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen going forward, but we know that it’s a possibility next year, especially with them starting the season so early.”

The district’s director of school support, Chris Barham, said things will change. “These guidelines are more for practices and not so competition-driven,” said Barham at this week’s meeting, “so we are going to work with Springfield Clinic to put some more competition guidelines in place for the future.”
