CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – An investigation is underway after a man was found dead Monday morning near a central landmark on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
Around 6:50 a.m., the Champaign County Coroner’s Office was notified of a death on Wright Street. According to University of Illinois Police, the body of a man, later identified by the coroner as 29-year-old Alex Rodriguez of Champaign, was located near the Alma Mater statue at the corner of Green and Wright Streets.
Rodriguez was not a student or associated with the university.
His cause of death is unknown at this time, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
UIPD found no signs of foul play and stated that findings show no evidence of an ongoing threat to the campus community.
The investigation is ongoing.
