SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Eight days after an off-duty Sangamon County sheriff‘s lieutenant hit a pedestrian with his squad car, the sheriff’s office has released two videos: one from the driver’s perspective and one of the driver himself, Lt. Andrew Henton.

A county news release Friday afternoon says the videos show Henton was not distracted by his phone or computer leading up to the accident at Ninth and Monroe Streets, at the Sangamon County Complex, at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.

Springfield police handled the investigation and, according to the news release, told the sheriff’s department the pedestrian’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Henton was driving south on Ninth Street and was making a left turn onto Monroe Street when he struck the pedestrian, who was walking north along Ninth in the crosswalk. Springfield police cited Henton for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

A county spokesman said Henton was neither placed on leave nor suffered any other repercussions from the sheriff’s department.
