CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) – Chatham dedicated a statue Tuesday in honor of the four children and a camp counselor who died after a car crashed into the YNOT After School program building last year.
Butler Funeral Homes, which spearheaded the project, said the monument’s design pays tribute to different aspects of the tragedy.
The base’s circular design represents unity and community support.
Meanwhile, the top represents the eternal flame, with the arcs representing the five children.
“It’s just a nice place that everyone can have an opportunity to go to … love and laughter and things shared throughout the years,” said Butler Funeral Homes Location Manager Katie Mendenhall Wilson.
The monument is now on display at Chatham Community Park.
