SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Jacksonville man will spent the next decade in federal prison after having and sending child pornography.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Springfield, Daniel Brannan, 48, was given 12 years in prison followed by 10 years of parole for Distribution, Receipt, and Possession of Child Pornography.

Brannan, prosecutors say, had more than 5,000 images and 34 videos at the time of his arrest last December, and had been trading them.  Subjects ranged from toddlers to infants, authorities said, and that he also had material depicting bondage and humiliation.  He pleaded guilty back in June.

Brannan could have received up to 20 years in prison, and up to life on parole.  The 12 year sentence was in the middle of the sentencing range for the crimes.

Prosecutors the investigation was part of the federal Project Safe Childhood initiative, designed to combat what it calls an “epidemic” of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
