SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A rural Springfield man was arrested Friday on a warrant alleging he had “numerous” examples of child sexual abuse materials in his possession.

According to court records, Gregory A. McDonald, 36, faces six felony counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.  He remains in the Sangamon County Jail, and it is not clear when his next court appearance will be.

McDonald, according to a Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department news release, had been investigated since September, allegedly for the potential sexual assault of a minor.  A search warrant executed October 16 in the 1200 block of North Oaklane Road resulted in “numerous electronic devices along with the suspect’s personal cellphone” being seized, said the release.  McDonald wasn’t arrested until Friday, and “Detectives continue to investigate and conduct forensic examinations of the seized devices. Additional criminal charges may be forthcoming,” said the release.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation,” said the release.
