Springfield, IL – (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – There’s not a whole lot of optimism in the latest Optimism Index from the National Federation of Independent Business.  The March report showed business optimism is at its lowest point since 2012.  Illinois State Director Noah Finley says owners continue to battle numerous headwinds.

“Small-business pessimism continues to damper growth and reinvestment in or communities,” said Finley. “Inflation is still a significant issue in today’s economy.  The last thing job creators need is more inflation-inducing policies such as the elimination of the tip credit or the adoption of costly vehicle-emissions standards that lawmakers in Springfield have proposed.”

The report shows the net percentage of owners who expect real sales to be higher decreased eight points from February to a seasonally adjusted net negative of 18%. The report also indicates plans by small business to fill open positions is slowing.
