50/50 — that’s how parents in a pregnancy situation would have to split costs under legislation passed by the Illinois House this week. Under the measure, a woman who gets pregnant could file a court claim for the father or intended parent to equally share medical bills and insurance premium payments.
It’s sponsored by Chicago Representative Margaret Croake, who confirmed that the father or other parent would also be responsible for half of the cost of an abortion under the law, even if the father was not in support of aborting the child. The bill passed 65 to 40. It now moves to the Senate.
