Similar to Friday, this week’s expected severe weather will pack a one-two punch.

Ed Shimon, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Lincoln, says the first wave should occur roughly 4-9 p.m. Tuesday, with squall-line thunderstorms along and west of Interstate 55 and the greatest tornado threat west of the Illinois River – in west central and northwest Illinois.

Shimon describes what should happen as “a cluster of intense supercells” capable of producing severe storms quickly.
