Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Singer Morris Day is coming back to his birthplace as part of Springfield’s Juneteenth Celebration. The lead singer of The Time is known for hits like “The Bird” and “Jungle Love”. He also appeared in Prince’s movie “Purple Rain”. 

The sound of Day’s fusion of funk, rock and R&B will fill Comer Cox Park on Martin Luther King Drive Saturday starting at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Day’s scheduled performance is part of two days of live music on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Several Juneteenth events are scheduled for the weeklong celebration and include a parade, community discussions and a youth enrichment camp. More information is available at juneteenthinc.org.
