Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the identity of the pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Veteran’s Parkway and W. Washington Street on Friday night. 57-year-old Brian Eck of Springfield was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Preliminary autopsy findings suggest Eck died from multiple blunt force injuries from the pedestrian vs motor vehicle incident. The death remains under investigation.
